The following Charter has been prepared by Mina
Ahadi, co-ordinator of the International Committee Against Stoning, and is
being sent to human rights organisations, institutions and individuals
throughout the world.
|
| Death by stoning is open barbarity
against humanity. It is a despicable Islamic punishment exercised against
adulterous women and men. The International Committee Against Stoning states that: 1. stoning is execution by torture; an inhuman and barbarous act condemned throughout the world as a clear example of savagery and crime against humanity; 2. laws on stoning and retributory punishment (Quesas, ‘An Eye for An Eye’) must be abolished as medieval laws of the age of Man’s savagery; 3. states who have legalised stoning and Quesas and/or commit these crimes should be condemned by the world community; 4. institutions who issue death by stoning and those who carry it out must be tried for crime against humanity; 5. promoters of the culture of stoning and Quesas must be tried for promotion of crime against humanity; 6. this Charter commits the world community to maximum effort to stop stoning in all states.
